MARCH 19TH & THE RETURN OF SPRING AND SUMMER

Photobucket
Today, after ballet class, Imi and I went to a vintage fair where we got some lovely things ( and played in the playground as if we were five -.- ) and we then went to a charity store...which happened to be best charity store I've ever been to! It had so many old books, videos and just generally awesome, tacky old toys and things!
But, I must mention the weather! I spent the whole day in a vest, and was not at all cold! The sky was so blue and it was just so nice!
I'm leaving for Barcelona on Wednesday.
I can definitely sense spring!

BETWEEN THE BARS

I had to write this because few songs can make me cry.
Between The Bars // Elliott Smith

Drink up, baby, stay up all night
The things you could do, you won't but you might
The potential you'll be that you'll never see
The promises you'll only make

Drink up with me now and forget all about
The pressure of days, do what I say
And I'll make you okay and drive them away
The images stuck in your head
People you've been before that you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still

Drink up, baby, look at the stars
I'll kiss you again between the bars
Where I'm seeing you there with your hands in the air
Waiting to finally be caught
Drink up one more time and I'll make you mine
Keep you apart, deep in my heart
Separate from the rest, where I like you the best
And keep the things you forgot
The people you've been before that you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still

(Rest in peace, Elliott)

SUMMER WARDROBE

Photobucket
It may only be February, and it may still be cold (which I like, I like wearing warm clothes) but I can't help but be a little excited about summer. Lots of stores have brought out their summery attires already, and here're some of which are my favourites!

"LONG LIVE MCQUEEN"

Lee Alexander McQueen's been gone for over a year now. I didn't know much about him other than his designs were utterly awe-inducing and really something special.
Tonight, however, on channel More 4, the documentary 'McQueen and I' was on - a documentary on his early designs; his work with Givenchy et cetera and how he made such a mark in the fashion world, and from this documentary I learned about who McQueen was and I was left in tears when his death was spoken of.
His work was so stunningly disturbing that I had to write about it. His shows were absolutely astonishing: The 'Highland Rape' one, the 'Mirrored Cube' one and the one with the model on a rotating board (Spring/Summer 1999) wearing a white dress, being splattered in yellow and black paint by two robots, her looking lost, frail and perhaps deranged. This theme of the 'deranged' looking models seems to be evident in so many of his shows, and some critics have talked of how it's as if they're Victorian women in an asylum.

What I feel people don't understand is what a freakin' genius the man was. He ventured where no designers had really gone, cunning in his deliberate attempts to cause controversy.
From what I've heard he was a shy, loving man under a huge amount of pressure to deliver, deliver, deliver, and with the death of his mother (whom he was so close to) in conjunction with the showcasing of a new collection in 10 days, the strain was evidently too much for him, and he was found on the 11th of February 2010, after committing suicide; hung in his wardrobe after taking a mixture of sleeping pills and cocaine.
He left a note, which ended like this:

"...sorry,
I love you,
Lee"

I must send my thoughts to him after watching his shows tonight. Those who met the man are truly lucky.

SILVIA

Photobucket
Reach the city steps tonight
Following the power lines
Met a man barside
With eclipses for eyes
And you tell yourself you won't let them touch
Did I say too much, did I say enough
I don't know Silvia
I don't know Silvia

Circle round the room still
Breaking my will
Know I can't have you here
Someone else on your skin
And it's all my fault for not getting off
And you made it start, can you make it stop?
You don't know Silvia
You don't know Silvia

Daaaaaaammmmn
Daaaaaaammmmn

Reach the city steps tonight
Following the power lines
And your skin is so white
Underneath the black night
And your voice calls out for the Coup de grace
When the lights go out... will there be a trace?
I don't know Silvia
That I loved, Silvia
That I loved, Silvia

FROM NEW YORK

My mum was lucky enough to be in New York for the end of fashion week (I begged to go with her but evidently, in vain), and whilst she was there, she got me a few products from Sephora and also found she loved the store too, so she bought herself this lovely 'Sugar Lemon' perfume from the brand 'fresh'
Oh, and some American chocolate or "candy", naturally. I really missed her, haha, even though she wasn't gone that long, and it was so lovely of her to bring me back some presents!

BALLET SHOES

I've started ballet for the first time in 8 years! Wow, it's been a long time.
Like many little girls, I went along to my ballet class in my pretty pink outfit and my little wrap-around cardigan. I remember very little of it, though!
So, to go along with my new, uh, 'hobby' I purchased my 'first' pair of ballet shoes. Okay they're not exactly my 'first' but they might as well be. They're Capezio's 'Daisy' and they're so pretty!
I was told that a 'full sole' would be best, as well as leather to make my feet 'work harder'

BASIC SPACE

I've been underwater, breathing out and in. I think I'm losing where you end and I begin.

I got these new trousers/jeans! They're corded and floral, from Topshop but bought secondhand! They're so lovely!

Mum's off to New York tomorrow, to catch the end of fashion week and meet some people, and I'm going to visit my grandparents. It's about time I started packing. It's February half term next week, which means one thing and one thing alone: revision, revision, revision. Maths and science exams are approaching! (March 1st and 2nd)
I can't believe I'm halfway through the school year already! If the remainder of the year flies by as fast as the first five months, it'll be summer before we know it! But, I'm really enjoying winter this year. It's been the best in a long while.

Oh! Did I mention I started ballet? 'Cause yup, I started ballet!

BLACK SWAN

Oh gee, wow, where do I begin with this?
I've seen this twice; once online, and today in the cinema. I can't even put into words how...interesting this film is.
The story, in a nutshell, is a girl; a girl treated somewhat as a perpetual child by her mother, a girl in the New York City Ballet, striving to be "perfect" and portray the black swan. As her mental state deteriorates, we see her become, ultimately, the black swan...a girl who's no longer a child (one must keep reminding themselves that this girl, Nina, is actually in her mid-twenties...yet the whole atmosphere of the film makes you believe she's much younger; thus we see her as a teenager rebelling, in a way.)
I must mention the directing. Based on this film, Darren Aronofsky is pure genius; the hidden 'bits' throughout the film, the suspense, the colours.
The acting was fantastic; Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis were all very impressive. There is no wonder why Natalie won an award for best actress at the Golden Globes!

Overall, Black Swan is a beautiful film, focusing on insanity and the road down to it, beauty, people, dreams and, of course, ballet; the beauty and the perfectionism, how we are always striving for more and what this does to us.
